Species Description:
A golem is an artificial being created from earthly materials or inanimate matter. Golems were made around the early 13th century til late 16th century and haven’t been created since. It is said that the secret to the art of creating golems is lost as the Jewish rabbi’s sealed away the knowledge. A golem is a being created by the word of God and would be controlled through the maker’s soul. As long as the creator was alive, then the golem could be controlled. The only way to kill a golem is to remove the paper, with the word of God, from its mouth or kill the rabbi. Golem’s do not have souls of their own and do as their creator’s wish. They were made as servants.

Brendan has chocolate brown hair and hazel eyes. He stands at 5’9 with a slight build. His hair is medium length and is usually pulled back or spiked up a bit. He has a gentle look to his face that comes from having a gentle heart. His hands are rough from work, with short nails. He is usually wearing anything that he can find, as he does not have money or a place to stay. The only things he has found and often tends to wear is a pair of jeans with a few holes, a tshirt and a ratty sweater.

Bren has this air to his face that makes him look older and wiser than he should be, looking around the age of 25. His eyes show his age and all of his emotions. He acts awkwardly in social situations which may make him look like a fool. Who is that badly dressed man, without shoes, acting like an idiot?

Brendan is a kind person. Being created in the word of God, he believes that he should be kind to all people and judge no one. Unless they do harm to him, he will never have a bad opinion about someone. He smiles a lot; he finds joy in the world even though the world is so out of order. He judges his options based on the good and bad of his actions and tries to be a good person. He will help someone in need if it is possible. He is a simple minded person who does not understand what love is. Though he has a general love for all people. Brendan is a very determined person if he sets his mind to it.

Brendan can be shy at times. Having been in an attic for most of his life, he has had little contact with recent society. He questions how civilization could have changed from what it was like in the 16th century til now, but accepts everything. He is a rather smart person depending on what he’s talking about. He loves to listen to people, finding it intriguing the way that they act and talk and express themselves. There has never been a time that Brendan has been angry. The closest he has been to feeling anger is confusion as to why he is still here. He is confused a lot of the time, questioning many different topics and finds himself in a lot of trouble. He has a general lack of knowledge when it comes to some items in society but always finds a way out with good luck. There has never been a day that Brendan has stopped believing in God, but often chastises himself into believing that God could not have a reason to have faith in Brendan.

Detailed History:
Brendan was first created by a man named Rabbi Joseph in the 15th century. He was Joseph’s only successful golem as he tried many times to create life by the word of God. Joseph was well known among his colleagues as a man of determination and that shone through with Brendan. Everything that Rabbi Joseph was, Brendan was. As Joseph controlled Brendan, he learned about the world through Joseph. Although it was believed that a golem was only a thing, Brendan had a little part of Joseph’s mind to himself in which Brendan stored small pieces of knowledge.

It wasn’t until Joseph’s main reason for trying so hard to make a golem came about that Brendan had anything to really do. As Joseph perfected his magic in creating golems, Brendan was actually used. Rabbi Joseph had lost his sister in an accident and had seen golems before. He believed that if you could create a body in the word of God, you could bring back a soul in the word of God. This was categorized as dark magic and Joseph was killed for blasphemy. But even though Joseph was killed, Brendan didn’t die. Golems die when their creator is killed or the paper is removed from their mouths, but Brendan had a different fate.

God had judged that Joseph had good intentions so he wouldn’t go to hell. However, he was not welcomed into heaven’s gates. His soul was charged to wander the earth until the end of time. Brendan was able to remain living because Joseph’s soul never left the earth. God saw that the golem had no creator with a physical body to control him. Therefore, Brendan was given Rabbi Joseph’s body. Brendan was new to this feeling, still thinking he was a golem, he acted like normal until he realised that he had a mind of his own now. Unknown to Brendan he could not die. Since Joseph’s body lost its original soul, Brendan had to gain his own soul before he was allowed to use the body to enter heaven. What he didn’t know and still doesn’t know is that he has to find someone to love him for what he is and what he was, true love, before he can be granted a soul and a spot in heaven.

Brendan remains to this day, wandering around trying to figure out what is still keeping him here. He has not aged, he has been exempt to illnesses and diseases, but he cannot die and this plagues his mind as being created in the word of God, he knows that no man shall live forever.
