[Species]

Species Description:
A nix is a male water spirit or a freshwater merman. They live in societies that parallel that of humans (with cities and communities, but under water). Unlike common mermaid myth, Nixes are able to go from human to merman form when desired. When in human form on land, there is no real way to distinguish them from other humans except for the fact that they constantly drip water/are constantly wet. Nixes can never be completely dry and have some item of clothing that will remain wet. Nixes can also move the water about their body as well as how much water flows to remain consistent. Even though they can choose when they want to go from human to merman form, if they come into contact with a large amount of water (eg. Walking in the rain/a bath), their tails will show until they leave the water. Nixes have a life span of around 300 years, though, the longer they remain on land causes their life span to shorten. Lucky for them though, they never look a day older than 30.

Overall Appearance:
Adrien is a natural beauty. Coming from the already alluring merman/nix species, Adrien only adds to this ocean knowledge with dirty blonde hair, auburn coloured eyes and tall height. His smile is warm, welcoming and large, always placed about his gentle features. His hair is just above his shoulders and curls naturally. It is soft to the touch and usually just a bit damp. He prefers to keep his water temperature to his hair or his ears, preferring not to move the water requirement anywhere else on his body.

Preferring to feel relaxed when on land, he is usually found in a pair of denim jeans, a t-shirt and jacket. No socks and instead sporting a surfer style male, flip-flop, he is casual and carefree. His jacket looks dressy but is lightweight and expensive. He doesn’t like to wear suit jackets though since he finds them restricting at times (also if they get wet they’re more expensive to dry clean). Around his wrist is a waterproof watch, which he never takes off. It was a gift from his father upon deciding to live on land.

When on land, Adrien stands at 6’1”, however, from tail tip to head, he is 7’0” tall in length. His tail isn’t anything special. His auburn-brown scales are smooth to the touch, and shimmer in varying shades of red in the light, making him look almost on fire in the water. He has a double set of fins on the end of his tail, a unique feature for male nixes since their second set of fins can usually be found near the hips.

Overall Personality:
Adrien is very laid back and goes with the flow. He doesn’t have anger or temper issues as many mermen and mermaids often do. Instead, it is very hard to get him angry. If it happens then you may want to make sure you didn’t cause it. When angered, although it doesn’t happen enough to be considered, he tends to drag whoever is it that caused his anger toward the nearest body of water and try to drown them. Of course, he’s never drowned anyone and hasn’t gotten that angered before. He also tends to throw things and smash items if he can’t make it to a body of water.

Although a handful if ever angry, he is a very gentle person. He doesn’t like to inflict harm on people; he isn’t a sadist in any way. It pains him to see other people in pain. Although he understands status and lifestyles that have come about, he doesn’t like the inflicted pain. He believes it is possible to own slaves and not beat them. If you have to beat your slaves, then you haven’t trained them properly. You should be able to command your staff with just words, they should respect you enough to listen and obey. Of course, that doesn’t mean he’s cold and heartless, forcing his slaves to do as he says. He actually prefers that they have opinions and voice their ideas about things. It’s nice to have a conversation instead of just a curt, yes sir no sir.

Adrien loves to laugh. He’s always smiling, feeling content with life and how he’s able to live. He doesn’t flaunt his power and status, but he does enjoy his life quite a bit. Although, if told that he was bragging, he would apologise. Adrien doesn’t like to make people feel uncomfortable around him. He’s too much like his mother, taking from the mermaid species rather than his father’s human race. He likes to have fun and enjoys a good party.

Detailed History:
Adrien’s family was dysfunctional. His mother was a full mermaid while his father was only half. It was frowned upon, half mermaid half human; however, his mother hadn’t minded. She had fallen in love with his father because of the way he could sing. Some believed that he was part siren instead of mermaid, but that was brushed aside. Being born in the ocean as his species usually is; he lived quite happily. His parents were happy that he’d survived the birthing as that year many of the babies died shortly after birth. Chemicals had been dumped close to where they lived and it was too much for their new gills to handle.

Growing up close to the shorelines of human populations, he knew much about life on land. Since his father was half-human, they would often venture onto land when his mother didn’t know. She didn’t appreciate the humans, polluting the water and using up the only drinking water they had. Merpeople didn’t need to drink water while in the ocean, but it worried her what the humans would do once they run out of fresh water. But that didn’t bother her husband. Adrien quite enjoyed those times on land. Apparently his father owned a fair share of land near the outskirts of Corpus Christi at that time. They would go into stores and town, see what life on the land had to offer. It was around that time that the species started to fight amongst themselves. They’d won the war against the humans, but they seemed greedy.

Poaching began in their ocean village, demons began hunting, poaching and catching the merpeople to keep as trophies. It was around that time that Adrien was almost of age for his first mating season. He was excited to understand what it was that all the adults seemed to itch and mingle about, they seemed antsy at that time of year. However, his mother had been caught days before the official season. A fishing harpoon landed through their house walls and snatched her from the room. Omar tried to go after her, telling Adrien to stay put. When he came back empty handed, Adrien swore he would never trust a demon again.

Couldn’t bear living in the ocean without her, Omar moved Adrien and himself onto land, to live in his estate in Corpus Christi. It was difficult, adjusting to life completely on land. He experienced his first mating season on land and has ever since. Mating season on land is unbearable compared to the contrast when in the ocean, but he knew no different. Every year around that time, he holed up in a room where it was cold and dark and tried to resist the call to the ocean.

His father died a decade after the move. His lungs weren’t able to handle the fumes in the air and he couldn’t return to the water. So Adrien kept to himself, living on the estate and doing as he pleased. He was very social but people never seemed to stay in his life. Masters were constantly moving, getting bigger and better places, slaves were always coming and going. He never seemed to have anyone that stuck with him. Although being a social creature, he’d never wanted to purchase slaves to keep him company. The idea of walking into the local trading rings made him sick to his stomach. After what happened to his mother and his father, seeing people in pain hurt him. However, he’s decided that maybe he should give them a chance. Give someone a home that wouldn’t worry them.
